***LIME CRIME GIVEAWAY CONTEST!!*** (ends 8/11/10)

(The actual prize!)

Okay, here we go!! The Narcissisters' first giveaway contest! As promised, we are giving away 2 Lime Crime products to one winner! We were the proud first prize winners of their Team Candyfuture contest for our review of Lime Crime (read it here), and now we are spreadin' the love!

We have for you...

One D'Lilac Candyfuture lipstick...and...one Magic Dust eyeshadow in Fairy Wings (which is a limited edition and won't be around for long!!). These two products will coordinate beautifully with each other!

(images courtesy of limecrimemakeup.com)

If you've been thinking of trying Lime Crime, here's your chance for free! You WON'T be disappointed. The lipstick is creamy-dreamy, and this is certainly one shade I've never seen in any other brand. You can be unique in this color and yet still a teensy bit on the safe side if you choose. You can wear the Magic Dust alone or as a beautiful browbone highlighter, and you can apply it wet or dry...and BONUS! - Fairy Wings is lip-safe too, which means you can apply it on top of lipstick or gloss. So really, it's like you win 3 products instead of 2!

Now, what do you need to do to enter the contest?? We'll try to make it pretty painless.

1) See the sidebar where we have a few things listed for "You might be a 'closet narcissist' if..."? You'll need to come up with at least one new thing to add to that list. You can submit more than one if you like. The winning saying we choose will reflect the spirit of the closet narcissist. Check out our web site, www.theclosetnarcissist.com, and read through past blog entries if you need help capturing the essence. Full of ourselves in a tongue-in-cheek way...that's how we roll. ;) We reserve the right to use your entry anywhere we wish (whether you win or not) - but we will give you credit if we use it!

2) Add us on ANY or ALL of the following: Facebook, Twitter, or publicly "follow" our blog (go to the sidebar under "loyal followers" and click to follow). We won't make ya do all three, as we know some people prefer one method over another. In your comment, let us know which one you did and leave a direct link or username if possible.

3) On ANY or ALL of the above-mentioned places, please tell people about us! You can accomplish this through a retweet, a Facebook status update, a post on your own blog, etc. We would like to have at least 25 entries in order to make this a more fair contest, so this step will hopefully help achieve that. Tell us where you spread the word about us (with a direct link if possible).

Just leave all the aforementioned info in a comment, and you'll be entered to win!

The contest will end on Wed., August 11, 2010.

There...that's it! Annnnndddd....GO!! Can't wait to read your ideas!

P.S. Here's a pic of me, Jenarcissist, wearing D'Lilac. (My own tube, silly!)

Girrrllll, you so cray-cray!!

Ah, cracks me up every time I say it!!

Thanks to a recent blog post by She is Sara (very cute blog by a very cute gal), I was reminded of how I have worn skirts as shirts in the past. What fun! How did I forget? So I tried on a couple different options, and here is what I ended up with.

The one on the left is a simple, asymmetric cotton skirt I bought at Wal-Mart back when they briefly had those cardboard stands that held all kinds of cotton wardrobe staples by Seeds - tees, tanks, skirts, wraps, even dresses. They didn't last long in the stores, and I'm not sure why. They were around $4 - $7 a pop, good quality, and easy to fit into an outfit. Sad. :( Anyway, I decided to try a Shop the Look necklace with it...as a belt!! I am all KINDS of cray-cray today! The necklace ties with a long ribbon, so it's adjustable around the waist.

The one on the right is a light blue- and white-striped skirt that I think originally came from Aeropostale or American Eagle or one of those A-name stores in the mall...but it came to me by way of a friend of a friend who was giving away a bunch of clothes that, thank you, God, fit me! I paired it with an old faux patent red belt of my mom's, cropped jeans from Delia's, and brown faux leather ballet flats from Target.

Same cardi in both photos...it came from Old Navy many, many moons ago. The arm pose...well, that seems to have ended up as my signature pose for some odd reason, and it's always the same arm. lol I'd definitely recommend a belt with any skirt-shirt to give you definition and corral the extra material.

*************

On another topic, can I just take a moment to say how much I love and adore my partner-in-crime, KameraWhore?? I love how similar our ideas can be, to the point where we're literally thinking of the same thing at the same time...but then in other ways we are different enough to complement each other so beautifully. We were just talking today about how she loooves research + development, spending hours looking into something, really delving into the biz end of things...while I get overwhelmed by it and don't enjoy that part as much. That is how I know we will grow the closet narcissist into a successful biz one day...we not only have the dream and the drive, but we also have each other, and together, we will strike the best balance because we feed off each other's creative energy and fill in each other's "gaps." We have big dreams in the works for this project, ya know. :) While you may not see Kam quite as much online as you see me, she is coming up with all sorts of wonderful ideas behind the scenes, and it's gonna knock your socks off once we're really rollin'!! :)

Fashion before comfort?

If you'd told me even six months ago that I would have actually purchased not one, but two, pairs of Crocs, I'd have probably laughed in your face. But that's when I didn't know how many styles they come in now and how good they make my little tootsies feel. On a trip to New Orleans for Easter weekend, I thought I was going to die...either from heatstroke or from shin splints! I thought I was used to walking, but oh, was I wrong! I literally didn't think I could take another step at one point. Then I borrowed my almost-mom-in-law's Crocs sandals, and suddenly, I kid you not, the pain was gone, and I was ready to walk the rest of the day anywhere we needed to go! I couldn't believe it. I had no idea how comfortable they were or that they came in any style other than the clog. I decided then and there that I needed to get some for my very own, which I did when we went on our beach vacation. She and I and a family friend headed into town to the Crocs store, on a mission! When we walked in the door, I was assaulted by the overpowering smell of plastic. I would have a non-stop headache if I worked there. But they had tons of styles, and I was surprised at how cute some of them are. I ended up buying a pair like hers because they felt so nice on my feet, and I also got a pair that is slightly more "dressy." I know, "slightly dressy Crocs" sounds like an oxymoron. But really, they are quite cute. They have  a slight wedge-effect heel. I am actually really excited about these shoes. These are the first comfortable shoes I think I have owned in years! I'm very odd about what has to be comfy and what doesn't. I could care less if my bra is pretty; I just want it to be comfy. But shoes, well, I will suffer and blister and moan, but dammit, my shoes will be cute. There have been plenty of times when we needed to walk a lot, and I just didn't want to wear the shoes I exercise in. Running shoes just don't go with everything, and in the summertime, it makes you hotter to wear them, so I'd wear something cute and be in pain. Now I can kinda have the best of both worlds when I need it! Yay. Look out, honey, 'cuz now we can walk around the mall for longer!! ;)

Do you subscribe to the "fashion before comfort" motto? Does it apply to everything or only certain things? Would you ever buy Crocs?

Makeup at the beach?

Sorry you haven't heard from us much lately...I've been on vacation at the beach, and KameraWhore has been working furiously, formulating some new things and researching a future facet of the closet narcissist. (With all those f's, that was a bit like a tongue-twister!)

Being at the beach made me think about a couple of things. I tried to spend my vacation not thinking about much of ANYthing! But a TCN-related thought can't help but pop in every now and again. :)

As much of a makeup addict as I am, I just can't bring myself to wear it at the beach! I enjoyed 8 makeup-free days and thought nothing of it. After a while, I kinda miss it, though! Just because it's fun. But while I'm there, it's the last thing on my mind.

I remember the first time I went on vacation with my fiance and his (now our) family years ago. At the time, I was not comfortable with not wearing makeup except at home, really. I didn't know what I'd do! I also wasn't very comfortable in my body back then either, and I was thinking, "I have to appear in public in a swimsuit AND sans makeup?!" I didn't know what a good thing that would turn out to be! I think I wore makeup the first day and then gave it up because it suddenly seemed so ridiculous to wear it at the beach. By the end of the week, I was used to presenting myself without makeup. I was used to how my face looked without it, and it didn't look so strange and foreign anymore. I really do think it's all a matter of what you're used to. Since then, the only makeup I've worn at the beach was a bit of mascara if we had a big get-together dinner where we all put forth a little more effort than normal (though nothing formal). Sometimes not even then. If we ever went out to a nice dinner on vacation, I might put on some makeup and just go lighter than normal. But that first vacation broke me of the habit and enabled me to - gasp! - be seen in public without makeup anytime I wanted, not just on vacation. This trip, the most I did was quickly comb my brows, 'cuz they're pretty unruly on their own. We rarely leave the house and surrounding beach, so we spend most of the day outside with sunblock, sand, water, sweat, and wind, and makeup is pretty pointless.

Which brings me to another thing I was thinking about...sunblock. It kind of amazes me that anyone sets out to tan on purpose regularly anymore. In my eyes, going to a tanning bed or laying out and browning yourself frequently is kind of akin to smoking these days. It's not only passe, but it's unhealthy. I'm really not interested in inviting skin cancer or premature aging. I was pretty religious about sunblock this trip and have been since a couple years ago when I accidentally burned myself to a crisp...my whole self was lobster red, and it hurt to sleep because I couldn't even stand to touch the sheets. I still got a little bit of sun this trip...even sitting under umbrellas and reapplying your sunblock periodically still isn't going to safeguard you from all exposure...and if I'm being perfectly honest, I think I look less tired with a little extra color. But what I got was pretty minimal, and I'm fine with it. I don't take sun protection to a fanatical level day-to-day, though I do make sure to at least have some on my face. But you won't see me out on the beach without sunblock anymore. I used to worry over being too pale; it seemed like tanning was the thing to do, and people would criticize you if you didn't have enough color. Now I just don't really care. I saw a picture of some guy from "Jersey Shore" (which I have never watched, but I know enough about it to know they obsessively tan) leaning back and holding one of those shiny, folded reflector things to increase his tan. I wrinkled up my nose and wondered what he'll look like when he's 40. I used to go to a tanning bed for special occasions, I used to think I needed to burn before I tanned, and I even thought I needed a "base tan" from a tanning bed before going to the beach...good grief. I'm not saying you will never, ever see me laying out by a pool...but it probably won't be for long.

I'm happy to say that when I go on vacation now, I truly relax and have fun...I no longer obsess over how my body looks in a suit, I don't spend all my time tanning, and I don't worry over how I look without makeup. It makes for a much more relaxing time!! And that's what vacation is supposed to be about. I want to have a good time on the beach and not worry about trivial stuff. If I start to worry about my appearance, I tell myself I'm sure I look better than I think I do and distract myself with something fun. It's just not that important!!

So, beauties...what are your thoughts on makeup at the beach/tanning/body image in a swimsuit? Do you let it get to you, or can you let it go and just have fun?

My LimeCrime lip collection is now complete! + CONTEST SOON!!!

Hooray!! I'm now the proud owner of all 10 LimeCrime lipsticks! Very exciting for me. I bought the first four on my own when they came out...just could not resist. Then, a lovely and very dear friend of mine enabled me to get four more with a gift certificate. Then, KameraWhore and I won FIRST PRIZE in a LimeCrime blogging contest recently for our review of the brand - eeekkkk!!!! That was seriously thrilling!! Our prize was 6 products of our choice. We decided to each keep two and then give two away in a contest here on the ole blog! We are still deciding what we want the contest to be...but stay tuned! You will definitely want to enter this contest!!! :)

In the meantime, here are the two final colors I added to my collection: Centrifuchsia and Retrofuturist!
